Lessons Learned from Two Weeks on the Road

Over the summer we spent two weeks on the road traveling from Southern Arizona to Northwestern Montana. If you’d like to read about our trip you can check out these posts – Great Basin National ParkGlacier National Park, & Route of the Hiawatha Mountain Bike Trail.

We had a lot of firsts on this trip. This was the first time we camped for two weeks straight, the first time we lived out of a cooler for two weeks, the first time we spent three days driving to a destination, and the first time we decided to drive to a remote destination over a holiday weekend without reservations. Overall we consider this trip a success but we did learn a few things. Read more

Cooler Fail: How Not to Pack a Cooler

This summer we spent two weeks on the road, which is not uncommon for us, but we camped for the entire two weeks. And that means we lived out of a cooler for two weeks. I had a great food plan for our trip. Unfortunately, our cooler did not like my plan. Read more

A Beginners Thoughts on Mountain Biking

If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook you may have noticed my fairly recent love affair with mountain biking. If you are new to mountain biking or are interested in trying it out this post is for you. By no means am I an expert but I will share what I’ve learned over the past year. Last summer, I bought a mountain bike so that I could ride around the neighborhood with my kids. I never expected to love riding as much as I do. Truth be told, I have always been scared of bikes. The thought of getting on something that I could easily fall off of seemed like a terrible idea. The good news is that I no longer feel this way. In fact, I feel the opposite! Read more

Great Basin National Park

Great Basin National Park in Eastern Nevada is one of the least visited national parks in the system. Several of my favorite travel bloggers have been to Great Basin and every one has said it is a hidden gem. We needed a place to spend a few days on our way home from Glacier National Park so we chose Great Basin. Read more

Glacier National Park

Summer is here and we just completed another road trip through this incredible country we call home. This summer we drove a little farther than normal – from Southern Arizona all the way to Northern Montana. It was a looonnnggg drive and the highways through Nevada and much of Idaho are crazy straight. A drive I definitely wouldn’t want to do alone. We learned a lot and had a lot of firsts. First time driving for three days in a row. (It was painfully long.) First time camping for two weeks straight. First time living out of a cooler for two weeks. (We didn’t realize we’d need an ice budget.) Once I finish recapping the trip I’ll write up our lessons learned. Read more

The Desert in Bloom

Allergies aside, spring is my favorite time in the desert. The trees and cactus are in bloom, and everywhere you look colors are popping out of the sea of green. It really is the most beautiful time in the desert. Read more

Winter Wonderland on Mt. Lemmon

We had a big weather system hang around this past week that dumped a ton of snow on our beloved Mt. Lemmon. The mountain has been closed all week and finally opened yesterday afternoon. We live in the desert and the only snow we ever see is on the mountain or in the movies. As soon as there’s a decent amount of snow the entire town attempts to head up the mountain to play. Knowing the mountain was going to be crazy, we headed up early this morning. There weren’t many cars and we were able to casually drive up and stop where ever we wanted. It was heaven. I don’t think I’ve ever seen the mountain that peaceful. Read more
